About this event
A is for authors. B is for books. C is for confident readers. Reading is more than phonics! This course for Early Years practitioners will identify an array of inclusive activities to spark curiosity and creativity in young readers. We will explore ways to develop the continuous provision inside and outside, to enable children to join the ‘literacy club’. We will look at some stimulating provocations that encourage children to see themselves as readers. We will try out some book-making and story writing activities that help children to see themselves as writers as well as readers of books.
This course will enable you to:
• Review and update your understanding of early reading development;
• Reflect on how you can build on children’s early experiences of books and print at home;
• Consider new ways to nurture confidence and a love of reading through play;
• Gain practical ideas for developing creative story writing and book making.
Trainer(s): Julie Cigman
Julie Cigman is an independent Early Years trainer, consultant and writer. She has been a Nursery, Primary and reading intervention teacher, was the EYFS lead on a post-graduate Early Years teacher training course and worked as an Early Years advisory teacher for Oxfordshire CC, leading a team on equalities, EAL and literacy. Julie runs writing projects which have successfully improved the confidence, motivation and attainment of boys and girls in the project settings. She is the author of Supporting Boys’ Writing in the Early Years: Becoming a writer in Leaps and Bounds (2nd Edition 2018) and Getting Boys Up and Running in the Early Years (2016).
