Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

We are fully committed to the inclusion of all children and believe that it is beneficial to both the mainstream children and those with additional needs that they play and learn together. We have extensive experience and expertise in working with children with varying additional needs, and involve the parents, who know their child best, in every aspect of the child’s learning at nursery.

We have the skills and expertise to educate children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in either our mainstream or our specialist class. Our specialist class supports children with identified complex needs. To find out more about the admissions process, please view our Admissions Policy and Admissions page.

Our specialist class can support children with a variety of additional needs, including Autism, Global Development Delay, etc.  Children may have mild physical difficulties and speech language and communication needs. We also support children with additional needs in our mainstream class.

Surrey County Council can be contacted for advice and support, contact the Surrey Learners Single Point of Access on 0300 200 1015.

Any parent wishing their child to be considered for a place in our specialist class will need to complete an Application Form and submit directly to the school in line with the deadline set each academic year.

Applications will be considered in line with the schools Admissions Policy.  Any parent submitting an application under Criteria 2, Exceptional social, special educational or medical need, will also need to provide relevant supporting evidence prior to the application deadline.

Once a place at the school has been considered, or offered, the school will work with the family to organise relevant funding from Surrey County Council in order to meet need.  The school will work with the family to ascertain the most suitable class to educate their child.

We strongly urge all families with children with additional needs to visit the school. Please contact the school office,  to arrange a time for a tour with either the Headteacher, Donna Harwood-Duffy or SENCo, El Davis.

As a parent with an autistic child I was very nervous sending him to nursery, but Dorking Nursery School made me feel welcome and comforted that my boy would be happy and develop into the best boy ever. He has made so much progress we are overwhelmed with the support and love he has been given. He has had the best first year with so much appreciation to the team to help my boy flourish and blossom into who he really is. Thank you so very much!
